This techinique is called the Gaussian Blur. Once you have blurred the whole photograph you have too erase the top layer of the area you would like to be in focus.
Today in media we were practicing different photoshop technique's. Here i have uploaded an image, made it black and white, and then made the skirt that the girl is wearing its original colour; this was done using the history brush.

The cover of September 2009’s NME shows that this magazine is an alternative music magazine. The front cover is very busy and this shows that there is a lot going on in the magazine, unlike that of a fashion magazine which in most cases has a very simplistic front cover. The aim of this front cover is to tell the reader about what is inside this month’s issue, the editors and cover designers have picked out what they believe to be the best and most interesting articles in the magazine and have used them as references on the cover to entice the audience. On the left third there is the magazine’s logo, this in most magazines is put on the left third as when magazines are stacked on shelves’, it is the left third that is visible. This is also why on the bottom of the left third there is a brief list of the main bands featured in the magazine. However, the magazines main article is about “Muse”, on the cover the members of the band are featured as though they are leaning in to look at you through the magazine, again enticing the readers more; they also have their instruments behind them, as the article is about their new album, so the cover and article are more relevant to each other. The colours of the cover are black, white and red, the red creates a dangerous, rebelling and defying feel, this tie’s in with the magazines featured artists. Finally, another one of the magazines main article ‘s is about the summers festivals, any readers that are interested in or attended one of the summers festivals are automatically drawn in by the word “festival” in bold white writing just above the logo. However, for the amount of information provided on the front cover, there is not a lot of writing. It is mainly listed bands, and the main headings of the featured articles.
The contents page of the September issue uses the same colour scheme as the front cover, and also includes the NME logo. Similarly to the cover it also lists the bands mentioned in the magazine, however unlike the front cover, they are listed in alphabetical order and going down the page where the left third would be on the cover; where as the cover has 4 bands listed and they are also split into two different colours. The font style is also the same as in the front cover, the headings and sections of the magazine are typed out in white capitals inside black blocks.
